In 2046, Detective Ross Sylibus is sent to Mars after a country singer aboard his flight is killed. The victim is a "Third," a human-like robot. He is paired with Armitage, a sharp-looking female officer with a hostile demeanor. During their investigation into the singer’s death and other similar cases involving women on Mars, they discover a plot that puts them in danger from the Martian government.
