Rukia has accepted her execution, and gives a request to first division captain Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto to send Ichigo and his friends home after her execution. The soukyoku, a massive halberd that transforms into a phoenix, is the execution method. However, Ichigo steps forward and stops the soukyoku with his sword, and sympathetic captains Shunsui Kyouraku and Juushirou Ukitake destroy the soukyoku.
