Ep. 54: Ichigo Defies Execution Order to Save Rukia from Soul Society

Rukia accepts her execution and asks First Division Captain Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto to send Ichigo and his friends home afterward. The execution method involves the soukyoku, a massive halberd that transforms into a phoenix. Ichigo intervenes, stopping the device with his sword. Captains Shunsui Kyouraku and Juushirou Ukitake, feeling sympathy for Rukia, destroy the soukyoku. When Renji arrives to take Rukia into custody, Ichigo defeats three pursuing lieutenants using only his bare hands. He then turns to face Byakuya, who is present to oversee the proceedings. This event occurs within the Soul Society: The Rescue arc, specifically identified as episode 13 out of 22 in the series.
