During a time when samurai ruled Japan, the Masked Demons killed all but one member of the Shinsengumi, a group responsible for maintaining peace and order in Kyoto. Seven criminals are selected to replace the fallen members. Ichibanboshi, whose parents were also killed by the Masked Demons, takes the place of Commander Isami Kondo. He leads the group in pursuit of the Masked Demons to seek revenge. These former criminals take on the task of restoring peace and order as their story unfolds.
