Rick Wheeler is the savior of the galaxy, and she was his last resort at defeating him; if she had done her job, he would be ruler of the universe by now! Alas, that has not come to be. Still, she's served him well all this time so he won't kill her - instead he'll chuck her in a cold sleep pod and blast her into space. Her cold, lifeless body can drift through space for eternity. Rick is still reeling from the revelation that Haruka Misaki still lives as Miss Killer, though Dr. Stewart is there to keep him from doing anything rash - it's awful news to hear, but he's in no position to go storming into Dark Million's base, wherever they are. Meanwhile, Zoda discusses with Baba and The Skull his curiosity for the data Miss Killer had found. He suggests they take a ship while Black Shadow is distracted and hunt down the cold sleep pod - maybe they can extract the info from her brain! The Haruka/Miss Killer situation is discussed at the Falcon House, and Lucy acknowledges that despite all the trouble Miss Killer has given him, Rick still holds faith in a little bit of Haruka existing inside her. She puts her feelings for Rick aside and believes they should do their best to unite the two lovers once more. At the F-Zero committee meeting, the chief of the Galaxy Mobile Platoon is making a speech about the committee's dissolution over its connections to Dark Million. Jody and Captain Falcon keep an eye from the back and agree to follow the two known connections from the commitee to Dark Million; Jody will follow Deathborn, Captain Falcon will follow Black Shadow. The two siblings wish each other luck. That night, Jody and EAD spy on Deathborn as he makes his way to the Mute City Hotel. They follow him up to his apartment and watch him enter...only for Don Genie to exit! What's going on here? The two sneak in to find whatever evidence they can get, but the room is empty. The windows suddenly shutter over, along with the door - they're trapped inside! A laughing hologram of Black Shadow appears to taunt them, asking them if they saw the "real" Deathborn before kindly informing them there's a bomb ticking down. There's no time to open the doors, so Jody hops onto EAD's back...as he rockets through the ceiling, carrying them out of the building before the entire floor explodes. EAD carries her down to street level before dismounting, where they regroup with Dr. Stewart. Where could Deathborn be? Meanwhile, Samurai Goroh and his crew finding a strange object floating in the depths of deep space: a cold sleep pod! They retrieve it and try opening it, but it's lock is too complex to crack... Not complex enough for Goroh's sword, though! The door slices open and inside they find Miss Killer; Tsukikage believes they shouldn't get involved in Dark Million's affairs, though the samurai chooses to return to their base on Cryton. Zoda and company watch them get away with their precious cargo, Baba claiming there's no way they'll give it up, though Zoda has his ways of making people give in. Namely, launching a million battle stations to fire upon his mountain base. Samurai Goroh isn't concerned one whit and resumes eating his lunch. Zoda eventually enters his abode and explains what he's after. Baba and The Skull try threatening him - if they give them what they want, they'll leave him alone - though Goroh brushes off their threats and confesses he's tight with Rick. He'd never want to cause him any trouble. Zoda's patience has run thin and is ready to just blast this punk where he stands...only for the Fire Needle to burst through the table! Zoda can only watch as Goroh and his comrades flee in their spaceship. Those show-offs! Rick, meanwhile, is fretting over Haruka's safety, blaming himself for having ever met her and roping her into this situation. Sasuke appears behind him and tells him of Miss Killer's whereabouts, urging him to come before making her leave. As he makes his way to the Dragon Bird, Rick finds Lucy working hard fixing it up, and she and Jack ask him where he's going off to. He tells of his business on Cryton and urges them to follow after him; they only hope Rick doesn't get himself killed before they can arrive. Samurai Goroh is busy wrecking Zoda's forces, flying the Fire Needle straight through the hulls of his battle stations and using the blade to slice them apart. However, concentrated fire on the underside of his hull forces the ship to make a crash landing, his crew willing to stand and fight until Rick arrives. The Death Anchor crashes through the ship, making way for a wave of Death Soldiers to follow after, only to be met with Samurai Goroh standing in their path. Zoda uses his Reactor Might to produce a sword so they duel like men! It doesn't last long. He produces another blade, but the samurai's battle technique is too strong for Zoda's lack of finesse. Only charging his blade with an excess of Reactor Might energy is enough to repel Goroh, who's still standing after the blast...but eventually collapses. Even Zoda is winded. The rest of the gang carrying Haruka's body are cornered by Baba, The Skull and a group of robots, but Sasuke's whip knocks them down in a single blow. Zoda advances upon them just as Miss Killer awakes, and asks her to come with him - he wants to know of Black Shadow's secrets! A chunk of the ceiling is sliced apart and Samurai Goroh falls from it to block Zoda's path. He can only support himself on his sword, but he and his men are ready to fight and let Miss Killer make her escape. Outside, Rick is finally approaching the Fire Needle - and it's in bad shape! The Dragon Bird bursts through the ship's door and clears the way of Death Soldiers while Lisa Brilliant and her men send Baba and The Skull running. Goroh informs Rick that Haruka has fled and is being pursued by Zoda, though Rick is reluctant to go - the samurai is seriously wounded! He calls him out on his priorities; isn't Haruka the woman he loves most in all the world? Isn't she the person he'd fight the hardest to protect? Haruka's escape through the desert is quickly halted when the Death Anchor blocks her way, but the Dragon Bird is quickly approaching. Zoda quickly ignores the woman for another duel with his nemesis, eager to rip the Reactor Might from his machine's engine. Zoda's machine repeatedly crashes against the Dragon Bird - he was created with the sole purpose of defeating Rick, and if he can't manage that, how can he go on to conquer the universe? Zoda's Reactor Might imbues him with such strength that Rick is forced to retreat, but the Death Anchor comes roaring at him full force...and launches a projectile at him. As it spins closer and closer towards him, Rick is reminded of his death 150 years ago...and he's not going to go down the same way twice! The Dragon Bird's Reactor Might begins to glow, emanating waves of energy that not only deflect the projectile, but thrust the Death Anchor right off a cliff! Zoda tumbles out of his machine with tears streaming from his eyes. Why can't he defeat Rick?! He has little time to reflect on his victory as the battle stations open fire upon him only for them to get shot out of the air by the Galaxy Runner. Jack and Lucy beckon Rick to catch up with his girlfriend, and he obliges. He catches up to Haruka slumped down in the sand, but she urges him to stay away...or else she'll shoot herself! She fears she is no longer the woman he loved, that she's nothing but a threat and a danger to him, but Rick still extends his hand to her. Those events were out of her control, and it's his fault for having gotten her involved in the first place. The two make their peace and are prepared to reunite... When Haruka suddenly finds herself ensnared in a tractor beam! She's pulled inside a Dark Million battle station as a hologram of Black Shadow appears, commending Rick for having tested the powers of his Reactor Might tremendously. The group are worried about him - all except Tanaka, who's amused that the great Rick Wheeler is so concerned over one of Dark Million's pawns. Lucy and Jody shout him down; wasn't it Rick who said "how can one man save the galaxy if he can't save one person"? They receive a call from Rick telling them of his whereabouts... While the Excellent Queen helps repair the Fire Needle, Rick is deep inside Samurai Goroh's cavern lair learning the ways of his inner strength as he sits beneath the pressure of a waterfall. Goroh's injuries have yet to heal from his last scrap with Zoda, but he's more than willing to teach his friend the merits of boundless determination. For instance, channeling one's ki to slice right through a waterfall! It may have been an ordinary sword he was carrying in his hands, but being really angry about something can carry you far. Lisa Brilliant escorts Clank and Lucy into the cave to cheer on Rick. He apologizes for abandoning them, but felt he needed to attend to his weaknesses before he could carry on his duties. They parrot his prophetic phrase back to him, and it gives him the gusto to go out and rescue his dear girlfriend. Goroh is pleased with his student's progress. Meanwhile, the grand space station of Dark Million docks upon a barren red planet, and Black Shadow steps out to admire the surroundings; leaving the frozen body of Haruka in his throne room. The Death Anchor pulls up and Zoda gloats about having found his master's secret base. It's more than that, Black Shadow replies - this is where his glorious dream will come to fruition, and it would not be possible without the Dark Matter Reactor. He courteously explains its purpose to Zoda: the universe was created with the Big Bang, and is forever expanding because of it. The Dark Matter Reactor is a high-energy furnace with enough dark power to halt its expansion. This will create a new Big Bang, one that will result in a universe governed by evil! Zoda likes the idea so much he wants to take it for himself, though Black Shadow's not giving it up without a fight; or more accurately, a race! Whoever reaches the Reactor first has the privilege will possess control of it. Zoda's game, and the two zoom towards it in their machines, driving up the track to the Reactor's interior... The two machines do battle, but the Death Anchor is too weak to even graze the Black Bull; its pilot taunts Zoda that he lacks the power to defeat him. He'll show Black Shadow who's boss! Zoda initiates his Death Fire technique to ram the Black Bull, and as he does so the Reactor's core begins to glow. The Death Anchor takes the lead, leaving Zoda confident in his success, but he quickly acknowledges that it shouldn't be this way: after all, Black Shadow's machine has two Reactor Mights in it. It should have trumped him in an instant! Zoda's Reactor Might begins to glow, stripping him of control of his machine as Black Shadow laughs. He has finally nurtured his Reactor Might to its peak potential...and he no longer needs the body connected to it! The Black Bull rams Zoda right off the track, causing his machine to spin helplessly through the air as it is sucked towards the Dark Matter Reactor's core, sealing him inside! The Reactor's cogs slowly chug into life as the machine has gained another Reactor Might to power it. Zoda's lifeless body is encased within, and Black Shadow muses that once all six Reactor Mights are installed he will be unstoppable. All he needs to do is defeat Rick Wheeler and Captain Falcon! He returns to Platoon HQ to find the whole gang were working hard on fixing up his Dragon Bird, and present him with a surprise: it now has two Reactor Mights installed in its engine! Captain Falcon retrieved the second one from Blood Falcon, and has given Rick his blessing to use it. It's an honor not many receive, though they warn him to be careful; it's also not every day you have two Reactor Mights encased in a single machine. He hops in and switches her on, revving the engine and seeing just how much power this beauty can muster. Shockwaves rumble through the room and it bursts towards the practice track like nothing they've seen before...but on the track it's a different story. The machine wobbles and scrapes along, its power sources causing it to be unstable. The Dragon Bird EX can no longer be tamed by mere electronics; it's now on Rick's shoulders to control these vessels of power himself. As they watch him practice, multiple rainbows form in the sky. But this isn't a sign of good fortune - this is universe-endangering peril! Warp gates begin to malfunction; aurorae form in the sky; savage storms wreck the coastlines; and attacks from unknown enemies assault all known space defenses... Even planets are colliding into one another! The Platoon are gathered in the police station when a message from Black Shadow appears, gleefully taking responsibility for the chaos and having an extra special image for Rick: an image of Haruka's frozen body. He teases him with another usage of his famous phrase: if he can't even save his girl, how is he fit to save the universe? After the message concludes Clank discovers the source of these galaxy-spanning incidents: the universe is shrinking! At the moment it's only little by little, but if the energy output is increased they'll be doomed a lot faster. Rick believes the source of this energy is the planet, Dark Star where Black Shadow and Don Genie had trapped him, and he wants to investigate. Tanaka is quick to remind him of all the possible dangers, though he retorts that they're accomplishing nothing by sitting here all day. The entire Platoon (and Tanaka!) set out there in the Galaxy Runner, having to brave the planet's defenses as they fly closer and closer to its surface. Black Shadow and Don Genie appear on the communicator, eagerly awaiting their arrival. While the Galaxy Runner takes the brunt of the assault, Rick and the gang disembark in their F-Zero machines to find the source of the energy. A wave of Red Bulls block their way, one of which is piloted by none other than Don Genie, who's itching for the chance to scrap with Rick personally...until he decides to turn tail and run, forcing the Dragon Bird to give chase. The Red Bulls are too much for the rest of the team and they are quickly overwhelmed. Don Genie tries to hold off Rick with some rear-mounted machine guns, but they're no match for the Dragon Bird. An overload of Reactor Might energy causes his machine to wobble out of control, accidentally ramming the Red Bull and making it burst into flames. It disappears through a door, though the Dragon Bird is just able to sneak in before the shutter closes. Outside, waves of Death Soldiers are keeping the Platoon busy, preventing them from entering. Good fortune is on their side as the Blue Falcon flies over them, slipping passed the defenses and into the facility. The Don is nowhere to be found in the inner chamber, only a lone cloaked figure...Deathborn! Rick gets out and raises his gun at him, but the mysterious figure finally reveals his identity: he's a secret agent from the Galaxy Police tasked with investigating Don Genie's activity, and the evil entrepreneur is escaping in the space ship just over there. Go get 'em! Rick rushes back to his machine...only for Captain Falcon to arrive and tell him to wise up. This is the biggest trap they've ever seen; he's going to have his Reactor Mights stolen if he enters. As if to prove his point, the ship explodes and Deathborn cackles at what could've been. Rick demands to know who this joker really is, but the Captain tells him the answer lies in his shadow... It's Don Genie?! No, actually; Don Genie and Deathborn were merely disguises used by Black Shadow - or his "shadows", if you will. The lord of evil offers Captain Falcon and Rick one last chance to join his side, or else the universe will fall into darkness. He hops into his Black Bull and disappears through a portal, chortling all the way. Jack and Lucy appear to check on Rick, but Falcon tells them there's no time for pleasantries - this place is going to blow! The two board the Galaxy Runner just before the entire planet combusts...but Rick and the Dragon Bird aren't on board their ship. Not to worry, he calls to tell them he's aboard the Falcon Flyer; he and the Captain are bound for the Dark Star, the heart of Black Shadow's evil plan. The Platoon beg to come along with them, but they have greater worries: an incoming fleet of Dark Million battle stations! The crew of the Galaxy Runner buckle down and open fire upon them, blasting them with everything they've got to cover the Falcon Flyer's escape. Falcon and Rick evade the enemy forces and make their way to Black Shadow's lair, pondering what lies in wait for them. Captain Falcon tells Rick that it is only destiny for humble creatures to blossom into beings of great strength and wisdom; it's because of that that he felt Rick was worthy of the second Reactor Might. The body of Zoda floats lifelessly inside it, while the frozen body of Haruka is suspended above the core. The Falcon Flyer is dawning ever closer to the Dark Star, where Black Shadow awaits them. The Galaxy Runner is also trying to keep up, reporting to the chief of the Galaxy Mobile Platoon on their progress. He's surprised to see director Tanaka along for the ride; he wishes the group the best of luck, and tells the director not to screw up. Clank finally pinpoints the Dragon Bird EX's position - and with it, the whereabouts of the Dark Star. They set their coordinates and forge on ahead, ready to face whatever threat comes their way. Things aren't any easier anywhere else in the galaxy, either. Distress signals are popping up across every planet as natural disasters and Dark Million attacks have incapacitated most cities and defenses. The chief's number one priority, however, is sending all backup towards the Dark Star - the sooner they cut out the root of this problem, the better! Not that that's an easy task - Dark Million battle stations are guarding all passage to the Dark Star, and are shooting down every ship that comes their way. Black Shadow's dream shows no sign of being stopped. The Falcon Flyer finally enters the atmosphere of the Dark Star, and by the time they land its hull has suffered severe damage; even the planet's very atmosphere is treacherous. The two disembark in their F-Zero machines and see the Dark Matter Reactor ahead of them...along with a long line of twisting, splintering paths leading up to it. The two split up to try and find the best route towards it, but it seems no matter how far they travel or what way they go, the Reactor is as far away as it was when they started. Rick doubles back multiple times to get nearer to it, but it seems to be further away every time he tries. Thunder brews in the clouds around them, cutting Rick off from any communication with Captain Falcon...just as Black Shadow's voice booms above him. He shows him the correct road to the Reactor, telling him it has been waiting a long time to feast upon his Reactor Mights. Rick takes the road with great gusto - he's also been waiting for the chance to clean Black Shadow's clock! He finally arrives in the heart of the Reactor, where the very presence of Rick's Reactor Mights causes the Core to glow, anticipating more energy to fuel it. Black Shadow welcomes him before zooming off in his Black Bull, and Rick gives chase. The Galaxy Runner finally reaches the Dark Star, and the few doubtful among its crew fear is Rick and the Captain have died already. The rest quickly bellow at them; there's no way they would have gone down without a fight! They didn't get this far only to lose hope! A wave of Dark Million battle stations swoop in and launch an assault upon their ship; they're no match for the Galaxy Runner's laser cannon, but the enemy have their own lasers as well. More and more battle stations arrive, each of them rearing to unleash their cannons, but the Galaxy Runner needs time to recharge its own weapons and shields! It looks like their goose is cooked...when one of the battle stations is suddenly sliced in two...and out of the smoke flies the Fire Needle and the Excellent Queen! Their arrival gives the Platoon time to boost out of there, leaving Samurai Goroh and Lisa Brilliant to attend to these foes. They've been itching for a challenge. Black Shadow teases Rick for failing to keep up; obviously two Reactor Mights are too much for him to handle. Rick'll make him eat those words, and accelerates to begin ramming him from the side. Their Reactor Mights begin to glow and fill their machines with greater energy, though the Black Bull is still top dog in the damage department; a single nudge sends the Dragon Bird EX scraping the barriers of the track. Ordinary attacks have no chance of harming him so Rick activates his Spin Booster, as does Black Shadow, and the two go at it once more. Even then, the Black Bull is a force stronger than he can deal with, and they lose their spins as Black Shadow pushes Rick towards the track's edge. He has something he wants to show him...the body of Haruka Misaki! The painful sight of his frozen fiancé causes Rick to clam up, allowing the Dark Matter Reactor's core to open and attempt to suck him inside. He struggles to fight back, and screams his true love's name. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Runner finally docks on the planet's surface and the entire Platoon head out in their machines, Clank piloting his father's Red Gazelle. Their path is not without obstacles, however - a fleet of Dark Million's F-Zero racers await them! They burst through the crowd in a massive explosion, the opposition being forced to turn and race after them. Lucy's Elegance Liberty is boxed in by two ruffians, but John Tanaka performs a surprise rescue by ramming the two aside into an incoming wave, exploding the lot of them. Elsewhere, Bio Rex, Octoman, Baba and The Skull are watching with some disconcern: their orders were to stand and fight, but they're frankly a little tired of it by now. And scared. Mostly scared. It doesn't help that Black Shadow snuffed Zoda as part of his plan...but the sight of all these exploding drone racers is unnerving - they don't want to end up like that! They choose to turn tail and run, leaving the Platoon to progress forward with minimal conflict. Inside the Dark Matter Reactor, the spiraling track turns into a flat plain as Black Shadow tries to push Rick into its core. The two draw closer and closer as the dark emperor taunts his foe about his impending fate: his Reactor Mights will power the core, allowing him to fulfill his universe-conquering dream...and in exchange, Rick has the privilege of dying with Haruka by his side. It may seem hopeless, but he's not in this fight alone - Captain Falcon appears to give Rick his support, flying across the room and rescuing Haruka's body from its position above the core. Free of concern, Rick initiates his Spin Booster with the Black Bull hot on his tail... Outside, Jody Summer catches up to Captain Falcon disabling Haruka's encasing, releasing her unconscious body. He leaves her in his sister's care as he returns to the core. "This is my final task," he tells her, giving her one last gesture before returning to his duty. While the two machines do battle, the Blue Falcon returns and run rings around the Core's floor, stalling the Dark Matter Reactor from spinning; if he can keep it up, they can overload the Reactor and destroy it, but he needs Rick to take his spot! Only the power of his two Reactor Mights are capable of outright destroying the machine. The Dragon Bird GT boosts and runs in a circle around the core; Black Shadow tries to stop him but Captain Falcon gives him what for. The two of them begin dueling, but Rick has difficulty performing his task: the Reactor has stopped, but he's not powerful enough! Captain Falcon urges him to keep trying, but it's not until Zoda's voice calls from the Reactor's Core that he knows what to do: think of the friends he has fought for! Think of the woman he loves! Put all of his hotblooded spirit into the Dragon Bird GT, and the Core will be destroyed! "BOOST -- FIRE!! FULL POWER!" The two Reactor Mights go into overdrive as the Dragon Bird GT turns into a whizzing golden blur, creating a powerful vortex around the Reactor's Core. The overload of energy causes the Dark Matter Reactor to spark and malfunction, plunging into the Core and destroying itself. Black Shadow's dream has been shattered... "Black Shadow?! It seems that you and I will be going to Hell together!" The floor begins to crumble as the Blue Falcon and Black Bull are sucked into the imploding Core. Rick calls out his name, but his mentor reminds him of what he once told him: "Only the one who surpasses Falcon can become Falcon." From this day forward, Rick Wheeler will take up the mantle of Captain Falcon. As his machine plunges into the light, Black Shadow flies from the cockpit bubbling with rage, and Captain Falcon does the same, the two rushing towards each other. "I won't let my dream die!" "FALCON...PUNCH!!" Falcon's blow thrusts the lord of evil deep within the volatile reactor, disintegrating him in an instant. Rick calls out his name, but there's nothing that can be done: Captain Falcon is too far gone, and he too disappears amidst the crackling energy...and the explosion of the Dark Matter Reactor concludes, its destruction seen across the entire Milky Way. The Platoon watch the aftermath from outside the Galaxy Runner. Black Shadow has been defeated, and his malevolent scheme has been thwarted...but what of Captain Falcon? Where is Rick? Clank asks around to confirm his idol's safety, but there's not a confident face among them. They fear the man from the 21st century has met his end. Tanaka, however, notices a glinting shape tossed from the wreckage of the Reactor - it's the Dragon Bird GT! They retrieve it and tear open the cockpit, finding Rick's body slumped inside. They call out his name in the hope he'll awaken...and with some difficulty he raises his head, his cheeks stained with tears. Clank asks him where Captain Falcon has gone. Rick's head sinks; the man sacrificed his life to save the galaxy. The boy is aghast and runs away to sob, but as he does so a shard of debris drifts overhead...and embedded in it is Captain Falcon's helmet. Clank is upset that his boss has passed on, and Jody expresses her grief for the brother she has lost. However, she passes the helmet into Rick's hands with confidence. Her brother was an impeccable hero, and she has faith that Rick will uphold his values in his place. A fresh blue sky lights up Mute City, Earth and the rest of the galaxy now free of Black Shadow's reign of terror. Rick rushes back to the lakeside park, just one of many repeat visits since his awakening, and he finds a familiar figure overlooking the water. This time the woman standing there isn't a dream...but instead the real deal. Haruka turns and runs to his side; it's been one hundred and fifty years in the making, but Rick Wheeler and Haruka Misaki have finally reunited. And he's got something he's been waiting a long time to give her... His ring of proposal - and this time it'll fit. It's been a long time coming, but the gesture is more than appreciated. The two hold each other in a deep embrace. Now, their lives can really begin. Epilogue It is the year 2207. A new Mute City Grand Prix is about to begin as the F-Zero stadium unfolds, making way for its race track. Among the participating machines is the Blue Falcon GT, piloted by the new forbearer to the Captain Falcon name. All your favorite racers are here; John Tanaka, Super Arrow, Samurai Goroh, Lisa Brilliant and the rest of the Platoon. The Dragon Bird EX remains among the participants, though it too has found a new pilot: little Clank Hughes, all grown up! Clash is eager to see the boy's piloting skills, as are Alias and Roy Hughes, now returned to his human body. The Blue Falcon GT enters the starting grid to great applause, but the greatest support of all comes from Falcon House, where Haruka Misaki mans the bar and wishes her lover all the best. The pilots have all lined up and the race is ready to start...when a surprise last-minute entry barges its way into the grid. Why, it's Zoda in his Death Anchor! Baba and The Skull are scared out of their wits - why did he have to come back?! The race begins, and the pilots come roaring out of the starting grid. The Dragon Bird GT gets an early lead with a boost, though the others aren't far behind, bursting out of the stadium and onto the track. Bio Rex and Octoman soon catch up and flank him, preparing to slam him from both sides...but Clank hits a speed booster just in time before they strike, leaving two fiery wrecks behind him. It looks like smooth sailing to the finish line, until another pilot passes him effortlessly: Captain Falcon. His Blue Falcon GT is a tough cookie to beat, but Clank is up for the challenge.
