In the distant future, Earth's overpopulation prompts efforts to colonize other planets. A ship called "Mesopotamia" crashes, killing all but six people, who escape to a planet called "Terra ll" similar to Earth. All survivors are male, so they establish six nations and use cloning and genetic engineering to reproduce. Since there are no women, they create emotionless female androids called "Marionettes" to perform daily tasks. A boy named Otaru discovers and activates three unique battle-type Marionettes with emotions due to a "Maiden Circuit." He helps them develop their feelings. When a neighboring country seeks to dominate the world, Otaru and his Marionettes must defend their nation.
