Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

A middle-aged man, known as Yotarou, is released from prison under favorable conditions during the 1960s to early 1970s in Japan. Struggling to reintegrate into society, he becomes involved in rakugo, a traditional form of comedic storytelling. Inspired by Yakumo, who is associated with the role of a "grim reaper," Yotarou requests to be taken in as his apprentice. The narrative frequently shifts to explore Yakumo's experiences during and after World War II. The first episode of the series is notably longer than usual, running 48 minutes instead of the standard 24.
