Butterflies multiply in a town where children spread rumors of a creature in a tunnel behind their school. When Arie Kimura's mother is discovered near the tunnel with strange human-like markings, the legend appears real. The children believe Arie is responsible for a curse and push her into a well connected to the tunnel, an act that drives Komatsuzaki, who had feelings for her, to a breaking point. The story unfolds across two timelines, involving characters like suicidal Suzuki, his stalker-like girlfriend Higure, and the enigmatic Miss Sakaki, whose face is heavily bandaged. Family members, coworkers, teachers, and others are all connected and must confront the consequences of their actions or experiences a decade later.
