Ushio to Tora

A boy named Ushio lives near a Shinto temple in Japan, where his family has served for generations. A samurai ancestor once trapped a powerful tiger named Tora using a sacred weapon known as the Beast Spear. While cleaning the temple, Ushio accidentally releases Tora from his prison. Though Tora threatens to eat Ushio, the boy initially leaves him bound. Tora's presence draws demons to the area, forcing Ushio to free him in exchange for assistance. The story follows Ushio and Tora as they travel and fight supernatural enemies. Tora struggles to adjust to the modern world while often trying to eat Ushio. The manga received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shounen in 1992 and the Seiun Award for Best Comic of the Year in 1997.
