Area 88 (TV)

A Japanese photojournalist named Makoto Shinjou visits the remote Middle Eastern airbase Area 88 to observe the mercenaries operating there. One of them is Shin Kazama, a skilled pilot who was deceived into joining the Asran fighter squad by a former friend. This decision cost him his airline pilot career and the opportunity to marry his fiancée, Ryoko Tsugumo. To leave Area 88 and return to Japan, Shin must either complete a three-year contract with the mercenaries, earn $1.5 million, or attempt to escape, which could result in his death.
