Lucifero, the current devil king, announces his retirement and initiates a competition to select a successor. Various Devil King Cadets travel to the human world to take part in the contest. Osamu, Lucifero’s descendant, shows no interest in becoming the next devil king and instead prefers working part-time at a convenience store. Despite his lack of enthusiasm, he must begin gathering "Child" familiars, creatures formed from human souls. While others advance in the competition, Osamu remains focused on his job and lags behind the other Cadets.
