Memory data can now be stored and transferred between bodies, allowing people to live on beyond physical death. This has led to the rise of "memory trading," where memories can be stolen and altered. Society has deteriorated due to the loss of authority and control. A man named Kaiba wakes up in a ruined room with no memories, only a pendant containing a picture of a woman he doesn't recognize. Above, the skies are filled with dangerous electrical storms that prevent passage without memory loss, separating the wealthy elite from the struggling masses below. Kaiba is attacked and forced to flee into space, where he meets various individuals and slowly recovers his past. He remains troubled by both the state of the world and his own uncertain existence. The identity and significance of the woman in the pendant, Neiro, remain unclear.
