Mai Zhu

Based on a 1989 prose piece honoring his father, the short film unfolds on the North Shaanxi Loess Plateau, where two boys attempt to sell their family's only asset—a pig—to buy food. Their efforts take an unexpected turn for the worse. The film showcases the vast landscapes of the region and the straightforward lives of its inhabitants. It uses dark humor to reflect the hardships faced in northwest China during the 1970s.
