Mai Takigawa accidentally kills her boyfriend Yusuke Tsuda in self-defense after misunderstanding him as a burglar, but in reality, he along with Mai's best friend Riko Totsuka planned a surprise party for her birthday. Takagi and Sato arrive at the scene to investigate, and also does Conan, who was at the apartment complex at the time and heard the scream along with Agasa and the Detective Boys.
