Ryoukan-san

A film portrays the life of a historical Buddhist monk and poet from 18th century Japan during the Edo Period. Born into a wealthy family in Izumozaki, he leaves behind a comfortable inheritance to pursue a deeper understanding of life through Buddhist teachings. From early adulthood, he endures rigorous training requiring a simple and solitary existence. Despite these hardships, he maintains a humble and modest character, treating all people with acceptance and rejecting fame and material wealth. He finds inner peace through time spent in nature and with children. His kind nature and approachable demeanor have left a lasting impression, and his teachings continue to be remembered.
