Bolt Crank is known as the World's Greatest Mercenary, a title earned through his combat abilities and the unique power to consume any substance and later replicate it from his right hand. As he travels, he encounters allies and adversaries, including a rival named Hard. A figure from his past, Leon Field, resurfaces, prompting Bolt to confront an unfinished mission. He is drawn into conflict with Shadow, a machine-controlling impostor who also claims to be Bolt Crank, and Stella, a woman seeking to mechanize all humanity.
