Memory-eating beings typically take memories from humans as part of their role in guiding souls. Some, however, grow attached to the memories and abandon their duties, becoming Exiles. Dio is among these, though he differs from others by helping people in exchange for their memories. He encounters a girl who is losing an excessive amount of memories due to the actions of Exiles. Attempting to assist her, Dio finds Ces nearby—once a model death messenger—raising the question of his presence in the situation.
