Asaha loses his home and family following his mother's death. He encounters a demon named Ohachiyo, who becomes his friend and gives him a new name, Mappa Douji, meaning Demon Child. Ohachiyo instructs Mappa Douji in various skills and bestows upon him the ability to read minds.
