A "PET" is an animal designed to bring joy to their master. The story focuses on the growing bond between one PET and her master, and how they come to care for each other. It is part of a collection that includes other brief tales, such as one set in the Taisho period involving a correspondence between two girls, a romance between a princess and a knight, and two friends coping with loss. Another entry continues the letter-exchange theme with a new pair of girls.
