The manga pays tribute to the fictional character Akechi Kogorou from Edogawa Rampo's works. It focuses on Mayumi Hanazaki, a middle-school student who once lived with her aunt and uncle before both were brutally murdered by an unknown individual. Following a strange occurrence, Mayumi now depends on the spirit of the renowned detective Kogorou Akechi to help solve the case.
