While on the run from the Erste Empire, Gran and the others receive a sudden proposal for a peace negotiation from the empire and make their way toward the Albion Citadel. Albion is a city built around its military academy, which also happens to be Katalina's alma mater. Tense, the crew attend a meeting with General Furias of the Erste Empire and are abruptly granted an official pardon. With the negotiations over, the crew finds themselves free. Gran was acquitted after receiving a pardon from the Erste Empire. Katalina leaves Gran and Lyria, leaving only a letter behind. They learn Katalina is devoting herself to Albion and is going to be sacrificed. Gran and the others try to convince Katalina, but Katalina's determination does not waver. Due to a past incident, Katalina feels indebted to Vira and wants to provide her support after the many years of pressure and loneliness Vira has endured as Lord Commander. Meanwhile, upon discovering the Empire's hidden agenda behind their pardon, the crew declare the deal between them void and rush to Albion Castle to stop Luminiera from being transferred to Katalina. Vira releases Luminiera's power and attacks Gran and the others. When Katalina sees Vira go berserk, she's consumed with guilt. She decides to confront Vira in an attempt to make past wrongs. In hopes of buying Katalina an opportunity to confront her former confidant, Gran and the others launch a counter-assault on Vira. After leaving Albion, the Grandcypher lands on a mist-shrouded island, notorious for being inescapable. They walk through a village to gather supplies, but soon discover it is a town of zombies who live in fear of a ghost ship. Gran and the others are invited to the home of two of the undead villagers, where an unexpected reunion awaits them. There they find the Black Knight's entourage: the agent duo, Sturm and Drang, and the girl with a power similar to Lyria's, Orchis. Celeste is being manipulated by someone. Someone who has forced the primal to attack the village and devour its undead residents. In an attempt to suppress the damage, Rackam, piloting the Grandcypher, stops Celeste in her tracks. Gran takes the chance to leap into Celeste to rescue Lyria, Io, and Orchis. As he ventures through Celeste's pitch-dark body, a vision of his childhood memories appears before his eyes. Inside the vision, a mirror image of Gran brandishes a sword at the captain. L'équipage se rend sur l'île de Golonzo pour réparer le Grandcypher, dans un contexte de lois étranges imposant le respect des promesses

Gran and the crew arrive at Golonzo Island, known as the mecca of shipbuilding, in order to repair the damaged Grandcypher. To their surprise, despite the astronomical price tag, no contracts are signed with the shipbuilders. The crew learns there is a special power on the island that enforces promises, whether they are written or verbal. While their ship is being restored, Gran and the others decide to take on work from Sierokarte to raise funds for the repairs. Under the command of Pommern, the imperial army takes Gran and Lyria away. Meanwhile, Noa is held captive in a research lab as he suffers from the effects of dark essence. It is then that Rosetta appears before Rackam and the others to offer her help in rescuing their friends. A long-forgotten memory surfaces within Rackam, and he makes up his mind to rescue Noa. Gran and Lyria escape from the empire's garrison and are reunited with Rackam and the others. Noa tries to resurrect the Grandcypher that had been damaged by the empire's strike, but finds himself too weak to provide sufficient power. He suggests they ask Mithra, the primal beast of promises on Golonzo, to help them. However, a sudden attack of dark essence hits Noa, causing him to go on a rampage.
