A boy named Ichigo Kurosaki can see ghosts, but his life changes significantly when he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper from the Soul Society. During a battle with a Hollow, a spirit that attacks humans with psychic energy, Rukia transfers her powers to Ichigo to protect his family. Unexpectedly, Ichigo absorbs all of her energy, becoming a Soul Reaper himself. As Rukia gradually regains her strength, Ichigo takes on the role of defending people from Hollows and helping spirits find peace.
