Unaware that Ram Dass paid her a late-night visit, Sara shows Ermengarde the desk where she placed the letter she had written. Although Thomas is happy to receive Sara's letter, he is uncertain of the kind of person the little missus has become since her father's death. Donald describes buying matches from Sara, but cannot identify or help locate her. Surya jumps onto the Seminary's roof, and Sara takes him in to enjoy the warm fire. However, she must then hide the monkey from the Headmistress. Sara smuggles him out with Ermengarde keeping watch, but Lavinia sees her. Ralph's little missus returns Surya to his home.
