Hijikata receives a report from Shinsengumi inspector Yamazaki about the struggle between the Katsura Faction and Takasugi Faction. Included is information on sightings of people who appear to be the Jacks-of-all-trades in the riot. Hijikata suspects that Gintoki has connections with the Antiforeigner Faction, so he orders Yamazaki to investigate Gintoki's affairs. Yamazaki questions Gintoki's friends, but he isn't able to get anything out of them. At his wit's end, Yamazaki ends up visiting the Jacks-of-all-trades.
