Kagura summons the dark priestess Tsubaki in the presence of Naraku, who offers his fragment of the Shikon Jewel to her. In exchange, Tsubaki curses Kagome using her snakelike demon puppet Shikigami. As her shards of the Shikon Jewel are tainted black and are merged within her, Kagome is forced under Tsubaki's hypnosis.
