Fuyu no Hi

A 2003 animated film directed by Kihachiro Kawamoto, it is based on a 17th-century renga poem by Basho. The film's visuals were created collaboratively, with 35 different animators each contributing to one of the 36 stanzas. Each animator provided at least 30 seconds of animation, with most segments under a minute, except for one that is nearly two minutes long. The film includes contributions from both Japanese and international animators. It is followed by an hour-long documentary that explains the film's creation and features interviews with the animators. The film received the Grand Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2003.
