While the Shinsengumi strive to maintain peace in the city of Edo, their commander Kondou is busy sulking in front of Otae, who now works at a snack bar. Depressed, Kondou calls himself a good-for-nothing. Otae gently smiles and tells him that she would love a man for his whole self, including his weaknesses. With those words, Kondou falls in love with Otae and asks her to marry him, but receives a knock-out punch instead. Undaunted, Kondou uses all sorts of means to show his affection for the immovable Otae.
