Guskou Budori no Denki

A young boy named Gusuko lives in the countryside with his family. After a series of droughts and natural disasters disrupt their lives, he is compelled to leave home and seek a better future. Motivated by a wish to help his impoverished community, Gusuko joins a scientific group known as the Iihatov Volcano Department. There, he participates in research and projects aimed at combating the environmental challenges that once forced him from his home. The story is based on a well-regarded novella by Kenji Miyazawa, who also wrote works such as Matasaburo the Wind Imp, Gauche the Cellist, and Night on the Galactic Railroad. The film adaptation of the novella has received several awards, including the Monbusho Selection.
