A prolonged conflict between the North and South led the fewer Northerners to employ dark magic in creating powerful warrior creatures known as Incarnates. After the war concludes, these beings must adapt to a peacetime world or be killed by Beast Hunters. Nancy Schaal Bancroft, born to an Incarnate, takes on the role of pursuing one such hunter.
