Author Keigo Hiura's assistant Chiaki Minazuki is found strangled to death in a hotel. Hiura has a perfect alibi, but Conan and Sera are certain he committed the crime. They ask about the condition of Minazuki's room and get closer to the truth. A 20 year old postcard is discovered inside Minazuki's suitcase. It is addressed to Hiura, and the sender is not Minazuki but Jun Ota, which is also the name of the heroine in Hiura's "The Phone, the Ocean, and I".
