Inuyasha and his companions are informed by an old man who tells them about a village of women tossing a corpse into a marsh. As they are to investigate, they find themselves helping a young man named Shinnosuke to search for his lost lady love named Wakana. They all are invited to spend the night at the village. Miroku and Sango are separately reminded of their moment together at Mount Hakurei. Miroku falls prey into flirtation and is accompanied to a shrine, leading to an encounter with the head of an oni Sango soon becomes captured and shackled inside a cave, being forced to swallow a salamander egg in order to be possessed.
