Genshiken

Kanji Sasahara faces a choice in his first year of high school: pursue his passion for manga and anime by joining an otaku club or avoid the social consequences of being seen as an otaku. Saki Kasakabe, meanwhile, wants to change her boyfriend Makoto, an anime enthusiast, into a more conventional person. Both decide to act on their desires, with Kanji joining Genshiken and Makoto following him. Saki tracks Makoto as he participates in club activities, including cosplay, comic conventions, video games, and anime figure collecting. Through these experiences, Saki discovers the otaku subculture is more complex than she expected, though not always in a positive way.
