The episode opens up with a bride being carried in a sedan through Yu Jun Mountain at night until there's sudden turmoil. The bride is anxious and notices a hand reaching in, thinking someone would help her, but she's attacked shortly after. After the opening Xie Lian's third ascension is portrayed. He talks to Ling Wen who shows him the destruction he caused in the Heavenly Capital. They both enter the Spiritual Communication Array to ask for assistance after Xie Lian was tasked with investigating the missing brides of Yu Jun Mountain. There Xie Lian meets his former servant Mu Qing and former bodyguard Feng Xin. Xie Lian makes his way to Yu Jun Mountain, visiting a tea house. He gets distracted by a silver butterfly until he's notified that Nan Feng and Fu Yao have volunteered to help him. The three of them discuss the case of the missing brides before they go outside and notice a group of villagers carrying a sedan. Xiao Ying comes running and wants to warn the "bride" of being used as a decoy, but it turns out the villagers used a doll. The leader of the group starts to assault Xiao Ying, but Xie Lian stops him. Xie Lian, Fu Yao and Nan Feng seek shelter in a temple of Feng Xin where Fu Yao tells Xie Lian about the legend of Feng Xin's reputation as the God of Male Fertility. Nan Feng makes a comment about Mu Qing's former job as Xie Lian's assistant and the two of them start to fight. Xie Lian interrupts them, and they soon come up with the plan to disguise Xie Lian as a bride to lure out the Ghost Bridegroom. Xiao Ying comes by to help them with Xie Lian's makeup. As Nan Feng and Fu Yao escort Xie Lian's sedan, Xie Lian suddenly hears a song. Wolves and Base Slaves attack them and Xie Lian orders the other two leave him behind. As he waits, someone suddenly offers him a hand through the sedan curtain who turns out to be Hua Cheng. Xie Lian takes his hand and flashbacks of the past begin to unfold as they walk together through the forest. They show parts of Xie Lian's past and through multiple scenes a young Hua Cheng is also there. The episode ends with the present of them walking together under an umbrella. (Source: Wikia)

The episode opens up with the group still being at Xiao Ying's grave. Xie Lian is shocked to see Lang Ying has the Human Face Disease, but Lang Ying runs away before he can ask further. He tells Fu Yao and Nan Feng that they should inform Ling Wen to track him down as soon as possible. Xie Lian goes to Ling Wen's temple where she tells him that they should talk more in the Spiritual Communication Array. In the array, Feng Xin is demanding someone to take Xuan Ji away from his palace, but Pei Su explains that she would only go madder if Pei Ming's palace took her in. After they find out that Xie Lian met Hua Cheng up on the mountain, the Heavenly Officials tell him about the Four Great Calamities and the story of how Hua Cheng beat 33 Martial and Civil Gods, causing them to be demoted and forgotten. Most Heavenly Officials leave the array after they decide to find out what the ghosts are planning, but Xie Lian calls out to Feng Xin and Mu Qing to thank them for sending their deputy generals, leaving them stunned. Later, Ling Wen tells Xie Lian his debt has been cleared. In return, he tells her that he has decided to go to the mortal realm and build a temple for himself. In Puji Village he finds an abandoned one where he settles down. A few villagers come visit and ask what god is being worshiped there, never having heard of the Crown Prince of Xianle before. Xie Lian goes into the village to collect scraps throughout the day. While walking home, he notices an ox cart and gets on to ride with it. As he reads through the scrolls, another person on the cart suddenly speaks to him. Xie Lian and the young man talk a bit about gods before Xie Lian asks him if he knows anything about Hua Cheng. The group survive the sandstorm and enter a cave with some merchants and artifacts from Banyue. Among the artifacts is a tablet that details the life of a Lieutanent from the army that opposed Banyue. After a nearly-lethal run in with a scorpion-tailed snake that left a merchant and Xie Lian injured, the group and the merchant's guide head to Banyue for a herb that acts as an antidote. Upon reaching Banyue, they see the two running women from the previous episode and hide, only to be spotted.

San Lang, Xie Lian, and Zhao split up to search for the Banyue Fern to heal Xie Lian's poisonous bite; General Ke Mo leads the group to the Sinner's Pit, where he demands a sacrifice.
