Mashiro no Oto

Setsu is a teenager who was raised by his grandfather and older sibling Wakana, both of whom learned to play the shamisen, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. After his grandfather's death, Setsu left high school, moved to Tokyo, and became directionless, finding comfort only in playing the shamisen. His wealthy mother, Umeko, intervenes by enrolling him back in school, unaware that this will lead to Setsu rediscovering his passion for the instrument. The manga won the Kodansha Manga Award for Shounen in 2012 and was also nominated for the 23rd Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
