Mashiro no Oto

A teenager named Setsu was raised by his grandfather and older sibling Wakana, both of whom learned to play the shamisen, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. After his grandfather's death, Setsu left high school, relocated to Tokyo, and became aimless, only finding solace in playing the shamisen. His affluent mother, Umeko, intervenes by enrolling him back in school, unaware that this will lead to Setsu rediscovering his love for the instrument. The manga received the Kodansha Manga Award for Shounen in 2012 and was also nominated for the 23rd Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.
