COCOON

A group of young women from a girls' boarding school in Okinawa are recruited as assistant nurses during WWII. San and her friend Mayu are among the students forced to work in a field hospital located in underground caves. They face the horrors of war, including bombings and the slow deaths of their peers. As conditions worsen with starvation and constant loss, the survivors are instructed to make their way home through war-torn territory. Based on the true story of the Himeyuri corps, the narrative explores the emotional and physical toll of war on these young nurses.
