The Happy Carrier Car breaks down between Rome and Vienna, requiring a week for repairs. Police interference regarding the troupe's advertising is overshadowed by the Black Rose's arrival. The group is invited to a charity concert hosted by the mayor in three days. During a night walk, Nadja sees the Black Rose evading police. Keith apologizes for past behavior, citing an aristocratic custom that killed his mother, and expresses regret over Nadja's stolen brooch. Nadja refuses to distance herself from the Premingers. Keith invades Herman's mansion, decommissioning Rosso and Bianco, but is attacked by Herman.
