Beelzebub rushes her tasks to impress Mullin, who mistakenly thinks she is idle and threatens to take a library job with Dantalion. She confides in Belphegor about a near-kiss with Mullin, fearing his hatred, but he denies the threat. The narrator notes this is their first lovers quarrel, though neither realizes it. Belphegor dreams of confessing to Azazel, who saves her from falling books; she attempts to say she likes him but accidentally says "Memorandum" and flees. As various characters sleep, others react: Adrammelech ties flowers in Azazel’s ponytail, Astaroth escapes, and Azazel covers Belphegor with a blanket. Molech wakes Dantalion, angering Eurynome. Mullin panics while moving Beelzebub’s hair, and she wakes, embarrassed by his actions.
