Ep. 86: Yami recounts his past with Vangeance to Asta, who misses the lesson and faces Mereoleona's arrival.

Yami tells Asta about his time as vice-captain under Wizard King Julius, where he and Vangeance hunted bandits led by traitors. Vangeance tricked the group into attacking two villages, allowing Yami to defeat a former rival leader. However, Yami was ambushed by traitorous Magic Knights Goht and Mohl, who tried to silence him. Vangeance rescued Yami, and they defeated the conspirators. Following this, Yami founded the Black Bulls for misfits, while Vangeance created the Golden Dawn for powerful mages. Asta fails to grasp the story's moral about persistence, resulting in punishment. He regains his spirit and waits with the Black Bulls for exam results, only for Mereoleona to arrive suddenly and violently.
