Ichigo Kurosaki discovers that only Orihime Inoue, Chad, and Uryuu Ishida remember Rukia Kuchiki after a Soul Society mind wipe. He begins training at the Urahara Shop, first fighting assistant Ururu Tsumugiya to regain control of his spirit body. During the second stage, his soul is separated from his body and dropped into a pit. Ichigo must recover his Shinigami abilities within three days to avoid turning into a hollow. Simultaneously, Yoruichi Shihouin, who appears as a talking cat, agrees to train Chad and Orihime. Her goal is to help them enhance their powers so they can accompany Ichigo to the Soul Society to rescue Rukia.
