Ichigo and Ganju try to escape Soul Reapers by using Hanatarou Yamada, a Squad Four officer, as a distraction. Their plan fails, but Chad’s energy blasts elsewhere draw attention, allowing them to flee. Hanatarou, a friend of Rukia, offers to take them to her. Meanwhile, Kenpachi searches for Ichigo but is misled by Yachiru’s directions. He visits Ikkaku in the hospital and prevents Mayuri from attacking him when Ikkaku refuses to answer questions. Before Mayuri leaves, Ikkaku informs his captain about Ichigo. This segment is part of the Soul Society: The Sneak Entry arc, specifically episode 9 of 21.
