Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken

After the demon lord Hadlar is defeated, monsters are freed from his control and relocate to the island of Delmurin, where they live in peace. The only human on the island, Dai, was raised by the monster Brass and dreams of becoming a hero. When Hadlar returns, the former hero Avan arrives to train Dai for battle. Hadlar, now serving a more powerful demon lord, attacks Avan, who uses a Self-Sacrifice spell in an attempt to stop him but fails. With Dai and Avan’s other student, Pop, in danger, Dai suddenly gains a mark on his forehead and extraordinary powers, allowing him to fight off Hadlar. With Avan’s fate uncertain, Dai and Pop begin a journey to avenge him and restore peace.
