Storm Force 9 parachutes onto the location to drill into the generator. As Black Orchid prepares to fire at an orbiting stellar telescope, Sam realizes he cannot stop the launch. Haruyo pilots a Thunderbolt directly into the laser's path, leading her teammates to believe she is dead. They later discover she survived by controlling the aircraft via radio. This action prevents the weapon from being used against the telescope, thwarting the group's immediate objective despite the high stakes involved in their infiltration attempt.
