EP 1Miaka and Taka face peril on the school roof while the Suzaku warriors seek answers at Mt. Taikyoku.
May 25, 1997Miaka and Taka spend eight months together until classmates trap them on the roof, accusing Miaka of flirting with Shigyou. Miaka is thrown off the building, but Suzaku saves them using a scroll. Yui finds the scroll after Shigyou wins the student council presidency. Miaka and Taka enter the scroll world, meeting Tasuki and Chichiri, who provide orbs containing Tamahome’s memories. The group travels to Mt. Taikyoku to reunite with the spirits of Hotohori, Nuriko, Chiriko, and Mitsukake. Taiitsukun warns that evil is brewing, requiring the Suzaku Seven to fight back. Meanwhile, Shigyou’s hypnotic speech about rebirth causes a massive earthquake at Mt. Taikyoku, endangering Miaka as Tasuki attempts to save her.

May 25, 1997Before Mt. Taikyou collapses from a Tenkou-induced earthquake, Taiitsukun explains memory orbs as Miaka’s group races to return them to Taka. Tasuki rescues a fallen Miaka from a lake, and they reunite with Chichiri and Taka to head to the palace. In the real world, Yui is injured by an exploding window after Shigyou reveals himself as the demon Renkou, declaring Miaka his enemy. At the Kounan palace, the group meets Empress Houki, who is mute and blind, and her son Boushin, who is also mute. A monster hidden in Boushin’s teddy bear attacks, but Hotohori’s spirit possesses the toddler to defeat it. Hotohori regains a physical form as a child, allowing him to speak to Houki and hear Boushin say "Papa." Taka accesses Hotohori’s memory orb, confirming the strength of Tamahome and Miaka’s love. Suzaku’s red light then transports Miaka and Taka back to the real world, while a young man resembling a Suzaku warrior prays at an altar elsewhere in Kounan.
EP 3Miaka and Taka face new threats from Miru and Renkou while seeking Nuriko's crystal ball.
May 25, 1997Miaka and Taka return to the real world to find Yui bandaged. She warns Miaka against returning to school until Renkou and Shigyou are identified. Taka plans to talk with Keisuke and Tetsuya, but Miaka disappears. Taka encounters Miru Kamishiru, who faints, bites his ear, paralyzes him, and warns him about time. Miaka ignores warnings and returns to school, where mind-controlled classmates corner her. Renkou threatens to make her death look like suicide. Taka arrives just in time to save her. They use a scroll to defeat Renkou, which drops him from the roof. Miaka and Taka are transported back to the scroll's universe. They reunite with Tasuki, Chichiri, and spirits to enter Nuriko's childhood home. Nuriko's brother, Rokou, refuses to surrender a crystal ball containing a memory orb. A creature from Miru's bite attacks Taka. Chichiri protects Taka, who falls unconscious. Rokou tries to leave with the ball. Miaka chases him but is bitten by a snake. Tasuki shields her and is bitten. Miaka sucks out the venom, then tries to remove the creature from Taka. This fails due to Miisu's spell creating an idol from Taka's blood. Chiriko tries to possess Rokou but fails. Chiriko shames Rokou for his cowardice. Rokou offers his arm to Taka to stop him from biting his tongue. Rokou admits his grief to Nuriko. His courage helps defeat the creature.
EP 4Taka and Miaka face Tenkou's cruelty while Tasuki succumbs to a water spell and attacks Taka.
Aug 25, 1998Miisu paralyzes Taka and Miaka, attempting to force Taka to kill Miaka, but he destroys her blood idol using reawakened power. Tenkou appears, steals Taka’s recovered memories, and discards Miisu and Renhou. Distraught, the couple is found by Tasuki, who is attacked by mysterious water in the woods. Taka finds Tasuki, who angrily attacks him, accusing Taka of causing Miaka pain. In the real world, Yui senses Miaka drinking. In the scroll, Tasuki takes a drunk Miaka to a tavern, confesses his feelings, and attempts to force himself on her. Taka arrives and fights Tasuki. Miaka’s tears shock Tasuki, who turns his weapon on himself, breaking the spell. Mitsukake saves him. Tasuki apologizes and warns of the water, which then abducts Miaka, trapping the group.
EP 5Chichiri confronts his past with Hikou while the group battles a new demon god threat.
Aug 25, 1998Chichiri faces Hikou, who seeks revenge for their shared past involving a tragic flood and a lost love. Hikou reveals he has become a demon god, using Miaka’s body to manipulate others’ desires and drowning her in a water bubble. Chichiri, Tasuki, and Taka arrive to rescue her. Tasuki struggles with guilt but, encouraged by Taka, sets fire to Chichiri’s cloak to trap Hikou. Taka devises a plan to defeat Hikou and save Chichiri. Hikou and Chichiri reconcile, with Hikou apologizing before dying and returning to water. The group reunites with their friends, but the demon god Yousue attacks, trapping them in invisible threads. Just as the situation worsens, a bolt of red energy destroys Yousue. Tamahome appears as their unexpected savior, shocking everyone present.
EP 6Taka loses his reflection and leaves Miaka, leading to a final battle against Tenkou
Aug 25, 1998Taka wakes without a reflection and begs Tasuki to hide this from Miaka. Chichiri reports a military ship destroyed by a mysterious island. In the scroll, Tamahome explains Suzaku awakened him because Taka’s form was failing. Taka feels his efforts were wasted and leaves, returning keepsakes to Tamahome. The Suzaku Seven urge him to stay, but he departs to protect Miaka from confusion. Keisuke confronts Taka for giving up. Miaka wakes to find Taka gone. Tamahome reveals he was the phantom until Tenkou swapped their memories. Taka, heartbroken, wanders alone. Tamahome tells Miaka to forget Taka, but she senses something wrong. Taka calls Miaka back via Suzaku’s power. They reunite as news reports the island heads to Tokyo. Keisuke suspects Tamahome. Tasuki and Chichiri ask about Miaka. Tamahome attacks them as Tenkou reveals control. Taka and Miaka plan to return to the scroll. They say goodbye to Yui. At Tenkou’s lair, Tamahome as Yousue traps Miaka. He challenges Taka, blaming her choice. Taka accuses Tamahome of jealousy, breaking his resolve. Tamahome fires red energy, thinking Taka defeated. Smoke clears to show Miaka protected Taka. She dies in his arms. The Suzaku Seven, aided by Nyan-Nyan, break the first barrier. Tenkou gains power to return to the real world. Miaka’s voice awakens Taka, reminding him of his strength. She promises to always be with him. Taka understands his purpose and defeats Tamahome by merging with him. Suzaku returns Taka and Miaka to the real world. The Suzaku Seven join them. Taka and Miaka sacrifice their lives to invoke Suzaku, joined by Seiryuu, Byakko, and Genbu. Suzaku reminds Tenkou he was a mortal executed for sorcery. The Four Gods seal Tenkou forever. The Suzaku Seven return to Mt. Taikyoku. Taiitsukun explains Taka and Miaka gave up their forms to save both worlds. She offers them a choice. The warriors convince them to return to the real world. Miaka awakens to Taka promising he is there with her.
