Tamahome returns to Konan to find fifty years have passed and his identity is mistaken for Nakago.

After a year in Miaka's world, Tamahome visits Takiko Okuda's grave with Yui, Keisuke, and Tatsuya before being pulled back into the Universe of the Four Gods. He travels to the palace in Konan, discovering that fifty years have elapsed since his previous visit and Hotohori's grandson now rules as Emperor. Tamahome is rejected by the Suzaku barrier, attacked by guards, and expelled from the city. A woman then mistakes him for Nakago, revealing his forehead symbol has changed. Meanwhile, the group attempts to retrieve a book from a burned library room. Yui receives a vision warning that opening the book will cause the current priestesses to vanish and four new women to be summoned in their place.

Kaen reveals Tamahome's swapped soul and the illusion of his time in Konan.

Kaen explains that Tamahome’s soul resides in Nakago’s body after Nakago took over Tamahome’s form. Tamahome drinks sake offered by Kaen, who then undresses to use Soi’s celestial ability to raise his chi through sex. Tamahome later battles Kouji, the former bandit leader, unleashing Nakago’s blue chi attack that kills many bandits and fatally wounds Kouji. Kouji reveals only a year has passed since the summoning and detonates a bomb. Kaen transforms into Tomo, revealing the sake contained kodoku, a drug that caused Tamahome to nearly kill Miaka. Tomo states that anything Tamahome saw since arriving in Konan was an illusion, though the kodoku was real. In reality, the priestesses are disappearing and Takiko is being erased. Yui enters a trance and is pulled into the book. Chichiri and Tasuki meet Suboshi, who uses Amiboshi’s body. Tomo arrives with Yui, now the Priestess of Genbu, and her first Genbu warriors. Nakago/Tamahome also appears. Realizing Yui stole the book, Miaka enters it to follow her.

Genbu Warriors Clash as Tenkou Captures Yui and Tamahome Seeks Rebirth

Genbu warriors attack Nakago, but Chichiri defeats them while Nakago injures Tomo and restores Yui. Tomo is killed by Tenkou, who reveals the summoning disrupted the century cycle. Taiitsukun explains Tamahome’s past was an illusion as Tenkou captures Yui. Nuriko, Chiriko, Mitsukake, and Hotohori appear before Miaka arrives. Suboshi shatters Yui’s globe with Ryuseisui and confesses his love before dying. Tamahome breaks the kodoku spell upon hearing Miaka. Yui uses two wishes to seal Tenkou and revive Takiko, then her final wish seals the book, severing world connections. Miaka and Tamahome part ways tearfully, returning a ring. The next day, the girls skip school. Taiitsukun informs Tamahome he must find seven globes to be reborn. Miaka and Yui visit a restaurant where a waiter named Taka, wearing the ring, serves them.
