Apr 13, 2004Kei Kurono, an apathetic and self-centered teenager, encounters his old childhood friend Masaru Katou while heading home. They attempt to rescue a homeless man who has fallen onto the subway tracks while intoxicated. Both men are killed by an oncoming express train and awaken in a room containing a black globe alongside other recent deceased individuals: a school teacher, a dog, a politician, a long-haired blond man, two Yakuza gang members, and a mysterious eighth-grader named Nishi. Shortly after their arrival, a naked young girl is teleported into the room and faces attempted rape by one of the Yakuza members until Katou intervenes to stop the assault.
2EP 2Black Globe issues kill order for Neigi Seijin while Kei dons suit
Apr 20, 2004The Black Globe interrupts a fight between Katou and Yakuza members by broadcasting a 1940s radio tune and ordering them to kill Neigi Seijin. The device opens to reveal weapons and suits; the men take the guns but ignore the suits, except for Kei, who wears one and is forced into the deadly game. Nishi provides GPS coordinates for the target, promising a reward for its death. While the group searches for the alien, Kei, Katou, and a girl attempt to find a way home. A politician’s head inexplicably explodes during his journey. The Yakuza, a schoolteacher, and a blond man locate Neigi Seijin, a weak young boy with an affinity for spring onions. They chase and kill him with their Gantz-issued guns, prompting an enraged appearance by the boy’s father.
3EP 3Neigi Seijin Kills Men While Kei Discovers Suit Abilities
Apr 20, 2004Neigi Seijin eliminates four men as an unseen figure laughs. A schoolteacher accidentally shoots a Yakuza member held by the alien, causing the penultimate death. With three survivors remaining, the alien attacks Katou, who falls down a steep hill after failing to shoot. The alien chases the others, but Kei jumps over a slope and discovers the suit enhances his jumping ability, allowing him to survive. The alien rolls down the hill and severely wounds Katou with its nails. Enraged, Kei realizes the suit grants him sufficient strength to defeat the alien. Finally, the unseen figure fires a belt to restrain the alien. The figure reveals himself as Nishi and urges Kei to shoot the alien.
4EP 4Kei drops his weapon, allowing Nishi to claim the points and reveal his secret survival method.
Apr 27, 2004Unable to shoot the alien, Kei lowers his gun, enabling Nishi to secure the points and end the encounter. Nishi informs the survivors that anyone still alive may return home to recover. Kei and a girl attempt to rouse the near-deceased Katou, but he merely survives. Back in the room, scores are revealed: Nishi receives three points for a total of 90, while others receive none. Nishi explains he has visited the room for a long time, where it creates fax copies of people just before they die. The group demands to know why he withheld this information, and he casually states he wanted the target to drop his guard. His cold rationality enrages them, but Nishi demonstrates his superiority by clenching Katou's wrist. When Kei threatens him with a gun, Nishi becomes invisible and departs. Kei later wakes in his apartment, seeing news reports of the earlier deaths, including his own. He realizes the experience was not a dream upon noticing a suit lying on a chair in his room.

Kei offers his money to stop the injustice, angering the gang leader who pummels him. Kei zones out, imagining Kishimoto naked, which causes an erection that powers his suit. He defeats the leader and flees. Meanwhile, Kato’s abusive living situation with his brother and aunt is shown. Meanwhile, Katou learns his younger brother suffers physical abuse from their aunt. The episode introduces Tetsu, a married biker with a child who rides with his gang, and Ryouta, a spoiled boy accompanied by his protective grandmother. Tetsu’s gang humiliates a middle-aged man who confronts them, pulling down his pants in front of his son. They also physically assault him, leaving him unconscious and exposed in a later scene.

Back home, Kishimoto regrets that she cannot attend school and asks to visit her old home one last time. At school, Katou defends a friend from bullies who plan to assault him after hours. A classmate warns him, and Katou confronts the larger bully in the toilets, imagining his aunt’s face as he vents his anger. Nishi mocks Kei’s fear, claiming borrowed suits are useless, and taunts the group about their reliance on others and inevitable failure, asserting there are no leaders, only competitors. Kosuke, one of the bikers, attacks Nishi in anger. The initial gunshot fails, but Nishi retaliates, causing Kosuke’s head to implode. Nishi commands Gantz to start, teleporting the group.
