Ep. 1: Civil servant Kazuya Souma is summoned to Elfrieden and unexpectedly becomes king through economic strategy.

King Albert and Prime Minister Marx summon Kazuya Souma, a civil servant trainee, to Elfrieden to address the demon threat that has occupied northern kingdoms for ten years. Facing bankruptcy, the kingdom seeks trade with Gran-Chaos rather than gold. Kazuya convinces the monarch to retain him, spending three days studying the nation's economy. On the fourth day, Albert abdicates, naming Kazuya king and arranging his marriage to Princess Liscia. Although Liscia initially suspects Kazuya of seizing power, she discovers he has secured funds for the Gran-Chaos trade by selling Elfrieden jewelry to the Amidonia Principality. She realizes his plans are well-conceived. Meanwhile, Duchess Excel of Walter dispatches her granddaughter Canaria to spy on Kazuya and assess his true capabilities.
