Edward and Alphonse encounter Judeau, a blind alchemist who claims to have successfully performed human transmutation. He reveals that a girl named Rosalie Harbinger was resurrected, with his eyes serving as the equivalent exchange cost. However, the woman known as Rosalie refuses to share the alchemical techniques with Edward. She leads Alphonse to a room containing the shriveled corpse of the real Rosalie, explaining that she is actually a girl named Amy who was adopted because she resembles the deceased child. When Edward arrives, the woman explains that her late husband concealed the transmutation failure from Judeau, who genuinely sought to bring Rosalie back. The Elric brothers depart with this grim knowledge.
