Ep. 5: Hakumei seeks construction work after being rejected by the association chairman

Hakumei attempts to join the local construction association to help rebuild a landslide-damaged stone wall. She meets chairman Narai and deputy Katen, but Narai initially refuses her request. Undeterred, Hakumei continues to maintain Iwashi's tools at the site. Her dedication and respect for her colleagues impress the chairman, who finally permits her to work with the crew. Meanwhile, Mikochi arrives to assist Narai's wife, Hakuyo, with cooking for the laborers. Hakumei demonstrates her value by identifying a critical safety oversight made by the chairman and suggesting an effective technique for cutting large stones, securing her place among the workers.
