Jim arrives as the new instructor for the riding class, leading the students through exercises to evaluate their abilities. During a running session by the upperclassmen, a bee startles Vivian's horse, causing it to bolt toward a cliff edge. In a desperate attempt to rescue Vivian, Lynn mounts Cathy's horse and pursues them. The dangerous maneuver nearly results in Lynn's death, but she succeeds in saving her friend. Jim witnesses the incident and is deeply impressed by Lynn's courage and bravery in the face of such peril.
